Update - Traffic interruptions on day 2 of filming will begin at 11:30am tomorrow (Wednesday) and end late at night.
Thank you for your patience Mahone Bay! Reminder!
Solid waste collection (paper and recycling), scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday May 1st, has been rescheduled to Thursday, May 2nd. This is a one time change due to the filming taking place in Town. Thank you for your patience Mahone Bay! We’re excited that Mahone Bay will be hosting the filming of a Christmas movie next Tuesday (April 30th) and Wednesday (May 1st)!
During the filming of the movie there will be local-traffic-only barricades in 7 separate locations with many detours to guide traffic outside of the filming area around the Cenotaph. The movie production company has a very comprehensive traffic plan to ensure the highest possible access but do expect delays. If you are travelling to Lunenburg from Hwy #103, please take exit 11 instead of driving through Mahone Bay. We thank you for your patience Mahone Bay! Exciting times for our little Town!
You will soon start to notice that it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! That's because scenes for a Christmas movie are being filmed in and around the Cenotaph next week, but creating the winter wonderland will take place tomorrow and Friday. Filming will begin next Tuesday and wrap up Wednesday evening. Because the filming is taking place in the centre of our Town, expect traffic disruptions and detours those two days. We will communicate more details about traffic disruptions in the next few days. Solid waste collection (paper and recycling) will be shifted next week from Wednesday to Thursday. Don't worry, we'll remind you again! Given the location of Town Hall, access will be limited. If you have business to take care of at Town Hall, please try to visit us in the next few days, or, if possible, hold off until next Thursday. If you do need to visit Town Hall during filming, please contact staff and we will make arrangements. The Town is still waiting on updates concerning the restoration of power from NSPI. At this time we would like to remind residents that during prolonged power outages, critical infrastructure is also offline or working at limited capacity. Residents can do their part by limiting their contribution to the wastewater system, such as not running water and limited flushing.
Thank you for your cooperation! It's an exciting time for Mahone Bay! Yesterday, the Honourable Susan Corkum-Greek joined Deputy Mayor Francis Kangata to announce $5.6-million in funding from the Province, through the Municipal Capital Grant Program (MCGP), for an infrastructure project along Edgewater Street.
This year design work will begin on a project to extend municipal services (eliminating the last of the straight pipes on Edgewater Street) enhance lighting, develop a multi-use coastal trail, and expand the Living Shoreline. In addition to this funding announcement, the Town has confirmed $1,722,126 in other Federal/Provincial grant funding and are waiting on Federal Government consideration of grant applications for an additional $1,313,135 in funding for this project.
