This is more than an opening. It’s a major milestone for Mahone Bay and a celebration of the incredible transformation of Edgewater. We want our whole community there!

Residents, neighbours, businesses, visitors, friends, and friends of friends... everyone is invited to come and experience the new Edgewater!

Mahone Bay is always well worth the visit, but this really is a moment we cannot wait to share with you.

]]><![CDATA[Notice of Fire Flow Testing on Clearway Street]]>Tue, 28 Jul 2026 17:15:32 GMThttps://www.townofmahonebay.ca/project-blogs/notice-of-fire-flow-testing-on-clearway-streetThe Water Utility wishes to inform it's water Customers of a scheduled fire system flow test . This will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, July 29th, 2026 - at 6:00 A. M. for approximately 15 minutes.
This will only affect Water Utility Customers located on Clearway Street, Welcome Street, Shady Lane, and Hyland Lane.

What to expect:

Reduced water pressure
Discoloured water
Intermittent service disruption

What to do:

We recommend closing the main shut-off valve and water supply valve to hot water heaters; this will help avoid having discoloured water enter the hot water heater and help avoid having heating elements burn out.

Consider turning off booster pumps during flushing to avoid equipment damage.

Check for discoloured water prior to doing laundry or running the dishwasher.

Suspended material causing the discolouration can permanently stain fabrics. To check, run a cold-water faucet, if discoloured water is present, flush your system by continuing to run a cold-water faucet until the water runs clear.

The Town of Mahone Bay regrets any inconvenience created during water main flushing. Water main flushing is maintenance procedure used to clean mains.

TAKE NOTICE THAT on July 14, 2026, the Council of the Town of Mahone Bay gave notice of its intention to rezone PID 60373107 and PID 60373204 from Residential to Parks and Open Space.

A PUBLIC HEARING on this proposal will be held by Town Council at the Town Hall, 493 Main Street, Mahone Bay on Thursday July 30, 2026, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The purpose of the Public Hearing is to receive written and verbal submissions from the public on this proposal. A COUNCIL MEETING will follow the Public Hearing at 7:00 p.m., where Town Council may make a decision on the matter discussed.

The Water Utility will be participating in a fire system test in the Town of Mahone Bay as follows:

902 - 624 - 8327 ]]><![CDATA[Traffic Update on Edgewater]]>Tue, 07 Jul 2026 19:16:53 GMThttps://www.townofmahonebay.ca/project-blogs/traffic-update-on-edgewaterTomorrow, July 8, the Edgewater landscaping crew will be on site with two crews, ready to make short work of the remaining median landscaping. This is an important step towards finishing the project.

To keep traffic moving safely along Edgewater, traffic control will be set up along the lane closest to the multi-use trail. McKenzie's Traffic Control will have a flagperson stationed at the bridge by Kedy's Landing and the public mailboxes to ensure traffic backups do not block access to local businesses and residences.

Based on what we've learned throughout this project, traffic will be released in 5-minute intervals rather than allowing the entire line of vehicles through at once. This approach has received positive feedback from drivers and helps keep things moving more smoothly.

We know delays are frustrating, especially when everyone is trying to get through their busy day. Please allow a little extra travel time tomorrow if you're on Edgewater and, as always, follow the directions of traffic control personnel for everyone's safety.

Mahone Bay is getting ready to welcome Communities in Bloom - Collectivités en fleurs judges to our beautiful town on July 21.

The Committee is hard at work to ensure we match the Communities in Bloom vision: To inspire all communities to enhance the quality of life and our environment through people and plants in order to create community pride.

Sylvia Jackson, volunteer extraordinaire, was out this morning litter-picking and chatting to people about Communities In Bloom and our upcoming Signature Festivals of Mahone Bay. Please spend a moment noticing the cleanliness of your neighbourhood and beautifying wherever possible. Litter-picking around your property, especially should it be accessible by the public, would be a wonderful help to have Mahone Bay looking spectacular.

Following Communities In Bloom, Sylvia and the Festival Team will move into Scarecrow Festival mode! Should you be interesed in vounteering and getting involved in the Bay Hive's innovative endeavours, the birthplace of many scarecrow creations, please contact: festivalsofmahonebay@gmail.com.

In the Month of August, the Mahone Bay Water Utility will be conducting its annual Lead Sampling Program, testing the homes of 10 volunteers, to meet Health Canada testing requirements.

Lead is not a concern with the water that comes from the water treatment plant but if you own an older home, there could be some lead in your pipes, fixtures, etc.
