What do you do when you see something that worries you as a threat to life and/or property in Mahone Bay?
If it is an emergency, call 911 If it is not an emergency, call 902-634-8674. The non-emergency number is routed to the provincial dispatch 24 hours a day, if it is outside of business hours or even if someone in the local detachment can't pick up. If you aren't getting an answer right away, let it ring because that just means that the dispatch office is busy. RCMP are never far away and we consistently hear that people don't want to call because they don't want to "bother" the RCMP - you're not. Call if you have concerns. On Tuesday, June 22nd the Town of Mahone Bay hosted a community discussion about what project(s) would help create a better community for cycling in Mahone Bay. Mahone Bay Town Council Approves Fire Hall
June 10, 2021 Mahone Bay, NS – The Town of Mahone Bay and the Mahone Bay Fire Department Society are moving forward with plans to replace the old fire hall on Kinburn Street. On September 8th, 2020 the Town awarded the contract to design and build the new Mahone Bay Fire Station to Roscoe Construction Limited. Work is now well underway on the new station, located behind the old hall. At the same meeting, Town Council approved an application for Federal and Provincial funding to replace the existing hall – attached to the old station – with a more energy efficient extension on the new station, on the urging of Mahone Bay & District Volunteer Fire Department volunteers. With no confirmation of Federal or Provincial funds to date, the Town Council has reached an Agreement with the Society to proceed with the new hall – estimated to cost an additional $1 million dollars - to be largely financed by volunteer fundraising activities. The Agreement between the Town and the Fire Department Society to build the new hall recognizes the contributions of the volunteers and sets the stage for sustainable fire service operations into the future. Mayor David Devenne stated: "The Town Council is pleased to be able to move forward with the fire hall extension on our new fire station, in cooperation with the volunteers of the Mahone Bay and District Volunteer Fire Department. We are grateful for the commitment of our volunteer firefighters to serving our community, and investments such as the new station and hall will serve the Department and the community for decades to come." The fire hall extension will support volunteer fundraising activities which provide revenue for the purchase of needed equipment, trucks, etc., in addition to taxes and donations. The extension will also expand the new building’s emergency capacity, allowing it to serve as a full-fledged emergency shelter for Mahone Bay and area. Work on the hall should be substantially completed in the winter of 2022.
