Municipal Awareness Week has arrived in Nova Scotia, and we’re excited to highlight the many services, responsibilities, and achievements your Town provides to support our community.
Municipal governments work every day to protect the safety and wellbeing of our communities. As we enter storm season, it’s important for all of us to take simple steps to stay informed, stay prepared, and stay connected. Emergencies can happen quickly, and the more prepared we are, the stronger and more resilient we become as a community. Here’s how you can get storm-ready and support your neighbours: • Sign up for CodeRED alerts on https://public.coderedweb.com/CNE/en-CA/BF457E066E02 to receive emergency updates and important notices for Mahone Bay. • Find updates on https://www.lunenburgremo.ca/ and tune in to 107.9 Go Rock for emergency information, even if the power goes out. You’ll still receive phone alerts and updates online, but radio gives us another reliable way to stay informed. • Save the Mahone Bay after-hours emergency line (pop it on your fridge): 902-543-3251. Our utility staff are on call 24/7. • Build neighbourhood connections. Knowing your neighbours and creating a contact list can help ensure everyone has support for things like heat, power, and wellness checks during storms. Charge your gadgets before a storm is expected. • Create a 72-hour emergency plan and kit. Nova Scotians are encouraged to be prepared to care for themselves, their families, and their pets for at least three days. Planning ahead builds confidence and gives your household peace of mind. Together, we can face storms and emergencies with readiness and strength keeping our community safe, prepared, and connected.
