Every year, November 5 – 11 is Veterans’ Week, a time for Canadians to honour the extraordinary courage and sacrifices of the brave men and women in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) who served, and continue to serve, our country.
Veterans' Week is a time to listen and learn about the experiences of those who lived through war, military missions, and peacekeeping efforts. Their stories remind us of the hardships faced, the sacrifices made, and the achievements that shaped Canada’s history. Our community of Mahone Bay has a proud legacy of service. During both World Wars, many local residents served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force, the Army, and the Royal Canadian Air Force. The town also played a key role in shipbuilding, with up to 500 people working in the shipyards to support the war effort. Today, Veterans remain active in missions that protect, support, and strengthen communities across Canada and around the world. Whether filling sandbags during floods, supporting communities after natural disasters, or delivering aid to people in crisis around the world, Veterans continue to make a difference. This week, we raise our flag in gratitude. To all Veterans, thank you for your dedication and your continued contributions to our communities.
