We understand that many residents have had questions about recent recycling and sorting changes. We appreciate your patience as we adapt to these changes together.
The good news is that Nova Scotia’s new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program for packaging and paper products means more items can go into your blue bag, including some plastics and packaging that were not accepted before. Under EPR, the cost of recycling is shifted from municipalities to the companies that produce packaging. This helps create a more efficient recycling system and supports waste reduction across the province. To help make these changes easier, here are some simple and helpful tools: Updated Sorting Guide Visit the Region 6 Solid Waste Management website for the most up-to-date sorting information: http://www.region6swm.ca Recycling App Download the Region 6 NS Recycles app on the App Store or Google Play (search: R6RECYCLES). The app lets you: check your garbage and recycling schedule; receive collection reminders; and find sorting information anytime Divert NS sorting Wizard Not sure where an item goes? Use the Divert NS online “Wizard.” Simply type in the item name and it will tell you how to recycle or dispose of it: https://divertns.ca/sorting-guides/lunenburg By using these tools, we can all work together to adapt to the new system and be more environmentally responsible as a community.
