We are excited to present a Draft Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reduction Action Plan for community engagement and review before the plan returns to Council for approval.
Over the past year, the Town has been collecting data related to greenhouse gas emissions and has worked closely with Town partners to model the Town’s emissions profile and develop preliminary action items and targets to propel the Town towards a carbon neutral future. We hope that you’ll join us for a Virtual Open House session via zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83302257915 on March 10th, at 7pm for an overview of the Plan followed by time for your questions and comments. This session will be recorded to view at a later date. Additionally, the Draft Plan can be viewed on the Town website: https://www.townofmahonebay.ca/electric-utility.html where comments can also be submitted. The Climate and Energy Team is turning to the phones to reach out to community members to gauge interest in community projects and gather details about home energy and GHG use. This information will contribute to the Town's green initiatives and help determine a baseline emissions scenario from community use.
If you’d rather complete the survey online, please visit http://bit.ly/ghgsurvey2020 All participating civic addresses with be entered to win a $100 credit on their utility bill. The next draw date will be Friday, July 17th. If you have any questions please email climate@townofmahonebay.ca The Town's strategic plan includes a commitment to pursue climate mitigation strategies through the completion of a community emissions baseline and the development of a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reduction Plan. Our Climate and Energy Outreach Coordinator, Katherine Dorey, is gathering data for the community emissions baseline. Katherine was ready to go and meet you in Town, knock on your door, and even share a cup of coffee to hear what you had to say, but COVID-19 precautions sent her home like the rest of us.
