Town Hall will be closed to the public from December 24th - January 2nd. If you have a power/water/sewer emergency during this time, please contact our after hours service at 902-543-3251. Happy Holidays Mahone Bay!
Timeline of the December 7-8 Planned NSPI Power Outage:
Nova Scotia Power Commission Incorporated (NSPI) contacted the Town a week before the scheduled power outage to inform us we could communicate the outage with Mahone Bay Electric Utility customers and asked us to put a technician with our utility on standby for Sunday morning (December 8th). The Town then provided notice of the planned outage to our utility customers (as well as customers in Riverport who would also be impacted and with whom we share electric utility staff). When power was restored to the substation, our technician began to energize the circuits of the Town’s local grid (we currently have three circuits: Eastern, Central and Western). The Western and Central circuits were energized in the morning. Issues were immediately identified with the Eastern circuit coming back online, affecting customers on or adjacent to Pine Grove St, as well as some customers on Fauxburg Road. The problem was identified as a blown fuse, an issue which commonly occurs when power is restored following a prolonged power outage in cold conditions. Our technician was able to restore power on the Eastern Circuit around midday, at which time the Town was not aware of further local outages and technicians focused on restoring power to a substantial portion of the Riverport grid which was without power following the restoration of service to Riverport by NSPI. Power was further restored to Riverport customers in the afternoon, by which time calls had come in informing the Town of persisting local outages on the Central circuit, both technicians headed to Mahone Bay to address the problem. All local outages were addressed and power was fully restored to Mahone Bay customers by Sunday evening; a much longer than anticipated day for our technicians! Staff and Council appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience through what was a dark and cold night & day. With wintry weather heading our way we want to remind everyone that vehicles that impede plowing and winter road maintenance are in violation of the Motor Vehicle Act and may be ticketed and towed.
Next week, Monday - Wednesday, December 16th to 18th traffic will be down to one lane in the area of 543 Main Street and 644 Main Street. This traffic disruption is necessary to carry out repairs to catch basins.
This month's utility bills have been issued and are available to be picked up at Town Hall.
Alternatively, you can call 902-624-8327 or email [email protected] to get the balance on your account. 'Tis the season to plan ahead for winter parking!
A reminder that vehicles that impede plowing and winter road maintenance are in violation of the Motor Vehicle Act and may be ticketed and towed. This holiday season the Town of Mahone Bay would like to encourage and remind residents of the importance of shopping locally!
By shopping locally you are not only supporting a neighbour but also reducing your carbon footprint. Online shopping typically results in more packaging and more than twice the amount of CO2 emissions as traditional shopping. Let’s all do our part to help make this Christmas a green one! UPDATE: Due to weather, this project has been postponed. We will update once this project has been rescheduled.
Tomorrow, December 10th, traffic will be down to one lane in the area of 543 Main Street and 644 Main Street. This traffic disruption is necessary to carry out repairs to catch basins. Town Hall will be closed on Friday, December 13th, from 12noon - 2pm for staff and Council's Christmas lunch.
