The Water Utility will be conducting a Fire System Test on Thursday November 27th Starting at 9pm until 10pm.
What to expect: • Reduced Water Pressure • Discoloured Water • Intermittent Service Disruption What to Do: • We recommend closing the main shut-off valve to your property and water supply valve to hot water heaters; this will help avoid having discoloured water enter the home and hot water heater. • Consider turning off booster pumps during this time to avoid equipment damage. • Check for discoloured water prior to doing laundry or running the dishwasher. Suspended material causing the discolouration can permanently stain fabrics. To check, run a cold-water faucet, if discoloured water is present, flush your system by continuing to run a cold-water faucet until the water runs clear. The Town of Mahone Bay regrets any inconvenience created during this testing. Please direct any questions or comments to the Town Office: 902-624-8327. Welcome to the town of Christmas abundance! More information here: https://www.festivalsofmahonebay.com/father-christmas Join us for merriment and cheer... Mahone Bay style! New electrical conduits are being installed on Edgewater Street, and the old lampposts are being replaced with new ones. Thank you to St. James Anglican, St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran, and Trinity United Churches for helping light up the night on Edgewater Street during this electrical upgrade.
Please take care when crossing between the churches and the parking lots after dusk. The road surface is uneven, and this week’s wet weather may make conditions more challenging. Please drive slowly to avoid potholes and unlevel areas. The construction team is intermittently filling in potholes with gravel to help improve the surface and marking areas for attention after dark with barriers and cones. Road grading is planned for this week, and asphalt paving is scheduled to begin the week of December 1. Thank you for your patience as the Edgewater Street construction team completes the work on Edgewater Street and as coastline trail improvements continue through December. Last Thursday, our staff took part in an Occupational Health and Safety training day delivered by Construction Safety Nova Scotia. This training package was won by one of our Councillors at last year’s Fall Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities Conference and AGM. During the session, we learned about the Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act and how it applies to real-life workplace situations. We also discussed the important role of a Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee in keeping workplaces safe. An excellent reminder of the health and safety resources available to us and how to use them to follow best practices. Members of the Watershed Advisory Committee recently visited the Oakland Lake Watershed Protected Water Area. During the visit, they discussed recommendations to help protect the watershed. The Committee also talked about ways to keep the area healthy in the future and how to better prepare for the next dry season.
Grateful for the rain!
We’re so thankful for the recent rainfall. Our lake, which supplies water to the town, really needed it! The water levels have risen enough that the lake is now flowing again, and we’re happy to announce that the mandatory water restriction order has been lifted. However, voluntary water conservation is still in effect. Please continue to use water wisely and avoid waste whenever possible. The more we respect our water source and take only what we need, the better prepared we’ll be when the long, dry days return next year. So, let’s keep working together to protect and sustain this precious resource, Mahone Bay! Join us for a cozy coffee chat at Town Hall!
Pop in on Wednesday, November 12 between 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. to enjoy a warm tea or coffee and catch up on what’s happening in our community. You’ll have a chance to chat with some of your elected officials and learn about the latest Town Hall News. We can also help you sign up for: Our digital newsletter Get On Board, our new civic engagement platform CodeRED, the Town’s emergency alert system If you’re new to Town, we’d love to meet you and help you get connected. This event is friendly, informal, and open to everyone. Just stop by, say hello, and warm up with us at Town Hall! Town Hall will be closed Tuesday, November 11th for Remembrance Day.
On November 11th, Mahone Bay's Remembrance Day ceremony will begin at 10:45am at the Town Cenotaph. A luncheon will follow at the Legion Hall, the luncheon is open to all in the community. More good reasons to mark Municipal Awareness Week!
Whether you live in a busy urban centre or a charming harbourside community, everyone relies on safe streets, clean water, reliable services, and welcoming public spaces. Mahone Bay may be small, but our municipality works hard every day to provide the same important services you would find in a large city. We take on the same responsibilities with pride, dedication, and a personal touch that reflects our local spirit. From caring for parks, orchards, and green spaces to maintaining benches, signage, crosswalks, and beautiful streetscapes, our community focuses on creating places where people can be active, gather and relax. We support recreation through facilities like the pool, playing fields, and tennis courts, and we protect residents with services such as winter ploughing, parking management, community safety, and a dedicated firehall. Essential systems like water, sewer, storm services, and electricity, including investment in solar power all help our town run smoothly every day. We also look after meaningful spaces like cemeteries and community gathering spots, including our beloved gazebo, and ensure public washrooms are accessible for everyone. Guided by thoughtful policies and bylaws, we balance best practices with the unique character of our town, proving that even a small municipality can provide big city services, all while preserving the charm that makes our community truly unique. This is the Town in our town. |
