Edgewater Project Updates

8/25/2025

Picture
August 22, 2025

Please find the latest on the Edgewater Project work in town:

HIGHLIGHT: ROAD CLOSURE BETWEEN CLEARLAND AND OLD EDGEWATER IS OPEN

Main to Parish: Harbour Construction plans to pour the concrete curb and sidewalk next week, with paving scheduled for the following week. All lanes are currently open to traffic and will stay open until the concrete and paving start.

Parish Intersection: Harbour Construction is discussing starting additional pipe work next week to finish this area. This includes replacing a short water main and hydrant on Parish Street. If this goes ahead, it will be done overnight.

Edgewater near Parish: From the Parish end of Edgewater, Harbour Construction will start installing new water and sanitary mains toward the churches. Work will begin up to the first turn in the road next week. This will also be done at night to reduce impact. There may be a short overnight water outage for churches and residents east of Parish who are on temporary water.

Edgewater Street: The closed section should reopen by the end of today, meaning the whole street will be open. This weekend, the only parking lot affected will be the laydown area near the public washrooms on Edgewater.

Along water’s edge: Brush clearing is starting on stretches of Edgewater where infill will happen and raised multi-purpose trail will be built.

Kedy’s Landing Area: Water infill work is expected to begin next week. This work will require traffic control with one lane open. The infilling is with rock to facilitate the new trail.

Scarecrow Festival: Festival organizers, the Town and Edgewater Project Team are working together to ensure that every possible consideration is given to support the festival’s success.

Thank you all for your patience as we move into these next phases of work.

If you have not yet had a dip at the Mahone Bay Outdoor Pool this summer, now’s the time to go! Tucked between Jubilee Park and the Firehall, our pool is one of Mahone Bay’s hidden summer gems.

From Main Street near the Cenotaph, turn up Clairmont Street by the Pharmasave. Take a left at the bend in the road by the Firehall and park under the tall pines off Clairmont Street, stroll the shaded path through old-growth forest, and you’ll find the “coolest” spot in town.

Run by the Mahone Bay & Area Swimming Pool Society, our Town pool is staffed by amazing local lifeguards and instructors. If you don’t have a season membership, drop-in is just $5.

Public Swim:
Mon–Fri: 2–4:30 pm & 6–7:30 pm
Sat–Sun: 2–5 pm

Lane Swim:
Mon–Fri: 5–6 pm

Water Conservation

8/12/2025

Due to the particularly hot and dry weather, the water levels at in the Town’s watershed have decreased significantly. While currently we are not enforcing mandatory water conservation, if we don’t see significant and prolonged rainfall in the near future, we may have to take more extreme measures.

For now, everyone can do their part to conserve water. Here are some activities to avoid:
  • watering lawns
  • washing vehicles
  • long showers
  • small loads of laundry or dishes

While we understand that lots of MB residents have friends and/or family living nearby with wells at risk of going dry, it is important that we conserve our community’s water supply. Residents of the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg and the Municipality of the District of Chester can contact their municipal office to learn about supports being offered for people experiencing dry wells.

Let’s all do our part!
