On April 24, 2025 Mahone Bay Town Council gave second reading to amendments to the Town’s Land Use Bylaw.
The amendment to section 6.4.1 removes the requirement for parking to be located exclusively at the rear of a building in the Residential Multi-Unit (RM) Zone. The amendment to section 16.2.1(i) removes the requirement, for new residential construction proceeding via site plan approval, for parking areas to be located at the rear of the building. This decision of Council can be appealed to the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board (phone 1-902-424-4448) by any aggrieved person, by the Provincial Director of Planning, or by the Council of an adjacent Municipality within fourteen (14) days after the date of the publication of this notice. The Public Works Technician – Casual position is responsible for a variety of operational and maintenance tasks. Their primary duties will be to maintain parks and open spaces. This position will also be required to perform other duties as assigned including transportation services (streets & sidewalks), and assisting water treatment and distribution, wastewater collection & treatment and electric utility staff as needed. On April 8, 2025 Council gave notice of its intention to rezone all properties on Hawthorn Road from Residential to Residential Unserviced.
A Public Hearing on this proposal will be held by Town Council at the Fire Hall in the Community Room, 41 Hawthorn Road on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, beginning at 6:30. The purpose of the Public Hearing is to receive written and verbal submissions from the public on this proposal. Council will consider making a decision on the matter at their May 13th regular Council meeting. Town Hall will be closed Good Friday, April 18th and Easter Monday, April 21st.

On Tuesday you can pick up clean-up kits at Town Hall. These kits include gloves, a garbage bag and a special sticker to place on the bag which will allow you to put garbage picked up in the community curbside without having to sort. The Town will be holding a Public Hearing to receive questions and comments on proposed changes to the Town's Land Use Bylaw.

Parking on Main Street will be limited to 2 hours during the peak season. Parking along the sidewalk on Clearway Street will be limited to 15 minutes for school drop offs. The Town of Mahone Bay is seeking a Water/Wastewater System Operator to support the safe and efficient operation of the Town’s water and wastewater systems.
Reporting to the Water/Wastewater System Manager, this role involves maintaining treatment facilities, distribution and collection systems, and responding to system issues and emergencies. Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma (NSCC Environmental Technology preferred), a valid driver’s license, and mechanical or utility operations experience.
