Waste Management

Mahone Bay is a member of the Lunenburg Regional Community Recycling Centre.  This means we separate our garbage and it gets picked up on an alternating schedule (below).

·        Recyclables (blue bag)     - Clean plastic containers and bags

     - Clean milk or juice cartons and boxes

     - Clean metal cans

     - Clean glass

     - Clean aluminum foil and trays

 

·        Paper (grocery/clear bag)  - Newsprint and flyers

    - Magazines, phone books, soft and hardcover books

    - Writing paper, note pads, envelopes

    - Wrapping paper

    - Egg cartons and paper trays

    - Boxboard

 

·        Corrugated Cardboard – Folded flat in 3ft x 2ft x 2ft bundles

 

·        Organics/Compost (green bin) - Food waste

   - Soiled or wet paper

   - Yard waste

 

·        Garbage (black bag) – Pet waste and kitty litter

   -   Styrofoam

   -   Soiled aluminum foil, plastic wrap and plastic bags

   -   Potato chip bags

   -   Ceramics

   -   Light bulbs

   -   Clothing, boots and shoes

   -   Sanitary products and diapers

   -   Carbon paper
