Town Services

The Town of Mahone Bay provides various services to residents of the town. Some of these services are provided by Town staff through its Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) while other services are provided through partnerships with neighbouring municipalities and through various organizations.  These services include:

• Police Protection (contract with RCMP)
• Fire Protection (Volunteer Fire Dept)
• Building & Fire Inspection Services
• Emergency Measures (REMO) (regional partnership)
• Planning Services (contract through Municipality of the District of Chester)
• Safe Drinking Water (modern state of the art Water Treatment Plant)
• Electricity (one of only 6 municipal utilities in the province)
• Waste Water Collection & Treatment (Sanitary & Storm Water)
• Education (South Shore Regional School Board)
• Recreation Programming (coordinated by the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg)
• Recreation & Cultural Facilities (partnerships with various Town organizations.)
• Mobile Library Service (South Shore Regional Library Board)
• Streets & Sidewalks (including Snow Removal)
• Solid Waste Collection/Recycling (Regional partnership)
• Heritage Protection (co-ordinated by the Mahone Bay Founders Society)
• Cemetery Operation
• Tourism (partnerships with the Chamber of Commerce, Destination Southwest Nova & Destination Bluenose Coast)
• Economic Development (Regional Development Authority)
